Žižek has just published a new book: Living in the End Times (London & New York: Verso, 2010). It seems that he finished the writing last year, since he refers very often to the twentieth anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall, which took place between November 9 and 10 of 1989. I immediately bought it, because of its obvious interest for the undergraduate course “The End of the World”. Here you are some lines from the introduction:
“The underlying premise of the present book is a simple one: the global capitalist system is approaching an apocalyptic zero-point. Its “four riders of the apocalypse” are comprised by the ecological crisis, the consequences of biogenetic revolution, imbalances within the system itself (problems with intellectual property; forthcoming struggles over raw materials, good, and water), and the explosive growth of social divisions and exclusions.” (x)
As soon as I have finished reading this book, I will choose the chapters we will be reading in this class.
