One lustrum in Berkeley ~ agenda

Again a series. But why not? Even the Patrologia Latina is a series. I won't even try to justify why. The thing is that I am about to put an end to my first lustrum in Berkeley, and I believe that this is a perfectly legitimate cause to start writing about some of the problems I have been facing ever since I moved in here from Salamanca.

Mask. Musée d’Orsée. Paris.I won't try to treat these issues from a very personal point of view. I would rather try to understand some of their intellectual implications. I will write it all in English, since language has been, and still is, mi main concern. I am very aware that I have a long way in front of me before I will be able to manage this marvelous language. But this is only one more reason for doing it. Here you are a shortlist or agenda of what I plan to write on:

  • On language
  • On academic writing style and peer-reviewing
  • On changing academias
  • On pedagogy
  • On administrative duties

I’m very eager to hear your thoughts on these fascinating and difficult topics. I hope you write more soon. I recently (about 20 minutes ago) posted on another blog some comments about gaps in student knowledge and Seminar culture and have already reconsidered some of those ideas. Thanks for bringing these provocative questions to the table.
