MayControlling the Influence. Liminarity of the Jongleur
This is my presentation for the panel "'Foreign' influences in Spanish Medieval Literature", a session organized by Harvey L. Sharrer. My intervention explores how and why in 13th Century there were some movements to modify the Jongleurs activities and repertories in the process of construction of the monarchical political and educative models. Some of the texts and authors I talk about are Provençal and Castilian, from Guerau de Cabrera, Guiraut de Calanson, Guiraut Riquier, Raimon Vidal de Besalú, Daurel e Beton, Flamenca, to Alfonso X. It was delivered in Kalamazoo, Michigan, on May 11th 2007.
I would like to thank Matthew Bayley, Julian Weiss and Valerie Wilhite for their comments and suggestions, and Harvey Sharrer for his kind invitation.
Graduate students Heather Bamford and Israel Sanz helped me in many ways, but mostly with the language and by placing important and intriguing questions to my texts. I am grateful to them
I dedicated this presentation to my friend and master Jerry Cradock.
